In 1979, Bantam Books published Greg and Tim Hildebrandt’s first fantasy novel Urshurak and released it to the world. The book was written by the Brothers Hildebrandt and Jerry Nichols, additionally featuring sixteen paintings and more than eighty drawings by Greg and Tim Hildebrandt. The three worked on this book for 3 years and after its release, it was a New York Times best seller for 6 weeks! This fantasy world, filled with elves, wizards, monsters, and more, was a project that Greg was obsessed with to a point that his entire studio was covered with sketches and layouts for this book. The final pencil pieces that were used as preliminary layouts are some of the finest pencil work the Hildebrandt Brothers have created. Very few of these special pieces are still available. This specific sketch of Zyra and Hugh Oxine, our hero, is a battle they fought with the gnomes. Greg and Tim thoroughly enjoyed creating all of the characters and environments in the world of Urshurak.
